Daddy Daughter Dance:
I have to say that this was definitely one of my favorite events to observe this year. Sure, in years past I've seen pictures of all the cute little girls in their cute little dresses and heard the cute little stories, but for the first time I actually got to watch the process of making this once a year event into a grand occasion.
Want to make a little girl feel like a princess? Here are a few things that might do the trick:
- Hand-dyed velvet dress with puff sleeves and a gold sequins trim. Check. (Good job Emily!)
- Gold ballet shoes. Ah yea!
- Family and friends around to take pictures and applaud the beauty-Yes please!
- The king of the castle to wisk her away to the ball. Of course.
It was so sweet to just watch Samara. She was beaming. Her walk said "I am beautiful." Her face said "I am adored." Her smile said "I am loved." And when Matt gave her a little twirl, you could just tell she knew she was the daughter of the king.
Watching Samara made me think- if this is what makes a 6 year old girl feel like a princess, what does it take to make a 23 year old girl feel like a princess? Or a 36 year old girl? Or a 68 year old girl? I'm betting it's the same thing. That she knows she is beautiful to the king. That she is adored by the king. That she is loved by the king. That she is chosen by the king.
I think we are cheating ourselves if we say that these are only things that we need to feel when we're kids, but eventually grow out of. We were made to love and be loved by the King of Kings. And He is the one that stands at our door knocking, longing to steal us away for a grand affair.
